Ecuadorian´s political ignorance

As we all (or most of all know) there is a consulta popular coming  on may 7th. This period of campaing before any election is a period that, in my country, I find really sad. I beleive that a high percentage of people are treated as political momentary tools. "things were created to be used, people were created to be loved; the reason why the world is in chaos is that things are being loved and people are being used". This quote applies perfectly but, the thing that is being love is abstract, is POWER. There is a very short line between convincing and using people, and it basicly differs in people´s ignorance about politics. In Ecuador there are a lot of, specially countryside people, that know nothing about politics in the country, however, they also have the obligation of voting. So, they are more likely to be used, because they don´t really know what candidates for example are offering or, in this case, how will a "yes" or "no" winning in the consulta would influence their lifes. A lot of times what happens is that they decide for things thay won´t really have any impact in their lifes but, as they have the obligation to vote, politicians "use" them to just make them vote for what they want to vote. I myself have met people that vote  just for the act of doing it, and for what they have been told to. So, to conclude this, I think that to reduce this problem elections should not be obligatory in this country because the results are not acutally "the will of the people" but the will of some who know what their are voting for and how good has a politician used and taken advantage of the ignorance of the rest.

El Coso de Iñaquito tuvo un lleno completo de 17.000 personas como una demostración de rechazo a la pretensión del presidente Rafael Correa de prohibir la celebración de la fiesta taurina en la capital, evento principal de las fiestas de la Quito. (Fotos y video ecuadorenvivo) “Feria de Quito Jesús del Gran Poder” es el nombre con el cual desde hace 50 años se realiza esta feria taurina que es una de las más importantes de América en el mundo de la tauromaquia. Una plaza a reventar vio una lúcida participación de los matadores David Fandila “El Fandi”, español; Sebastián Castella, francés y el ecuatoriano Martín Campusano.  El Fandi y Sebastián Castella, considerados entre los mejores toreros del mundo, alternaron con Campusano, quien realizó una sobria actuación que no tuvo nada que envidiar a sus alternantes.  David Fandila "El Fandi", español    Martín Campusano, ecuatoriano    Sebastián Castella, francés Entre gritos de “libertad”, coreados al unísono por los presentes, se desarrolló un hermoso y emotivo espectáculo en el cual “El Fandi” logró 2 orejas, y Castella cerró con dos orejas y un rabo. A pesar de contar con la presencia de las autoridades municipales que deben presidir estos eventos, fue evidente la ausencia de la banda municipal, cuya presencia en las corridas de toros es una tradición, y la misma fue ofrecida por las autoridades municipales a los organizadores, sin embargo nunca llegaron por lo que se acudió a un CD con música taurina para suplir esta inesperada ausencia. Entre los presentes se pudo observar a dirigentes de los toreros, picadores, banderilleros, periodistas taurinos, ganaderos, concejales del cantón Quito y miles de aficionados de toda edad y condición social. Yes, we are a minory but, where have our rights gone? today we  have to fight for bullfighting and cock fight but, tomorrow what would it be? This bullfighting was very importan, I ws there and had the opportunity to participate from the speechs and there was a melancolinc air that everybody could feel. I gues Ecuador has become a country in which under the name of "democracy" traditions, culture, jobs, and most of all LIBERTIES, are taken away. After being there I just know that I want and must fight for my tradition yes, but overall for my rights! We as young ecuadorians can not allow our country to become a place in where we disguise an autocracy with a "consulta popular" and where liberties are taken out by votes.

Liberties....decided by votes?

Democracy is a liberty, yes. But, the liberty to choose is a right,the right to work is a liberty and the right to a culture, is a human right. When talking about liberty, as in everything, there are boundaries an concepts that if confused or distorted may traspass these limits. So, it is important to determine until what point is liberty accepted in a way that it would never interfere with another one. I talk about this because of the Consulta Popular that is intended to be made in our country. In it, the government is making people´s liberty and right to democracy to interfere and deny other people´s liberty to choose, other people´s right to work and even in one of the questions other people´s right to a culture. There are some things that can be consulted others can´t and as a friend of mine said " liberty is not consulted, it is respected". In conclusion, ecuadorians have the right to assit to any spectacle they want as long as it does not violate other people´s rights, and, those who live because of those spectacles, have the right to work. Finally, ecuadorians have the human right to a culture and to traditions, therefore they cannot be erradicated by votes!
